Tisha B'av

18 July

Today, according to our Hebrew calender, is the ninth of Av. Today we need to be praying that nothing bad happens to Israel and the Jewish people. That nobody dies. That none of their land will get taken from them. That only good things will happen to day. Here's a short story.

Napoleon Bonaparte was walking through the streets when he passed a synagogue, and heard wailing and weeping from inside. He asked why people were mourning, and they told him that their temple had been destroyed 2000 years ago. They were mourning the loss of their temples, both the first and the second. Napoleon was aghast. Finally, he said, "A people that have mourned the loss of their temple will surely live to see it rebuilt. And if anyone feels strongly about the events that happened to them thousands of years ago, they will surely survive as a people, and persevere."
