Daily readings
26 MayI never really understood why they called the book of Numbers Numbers. I guess I was too little to understand or just wasn't listening when we last read it. I know why it's called Numbers now. :) Some people could say that last weeks Torah portion was boring and that there was nothing interesting in it but how the Israelite' traveled and how many men were in the each tribe and so on. But at our fellowship we had a great discussion! I'd like to do a more in-depth study on each of the tribes surrounding the tabernacle but for now, I just wanted to tell you that if you didn't read it, you should right now! Even though it was from last weeks portion, it was still interesting.
And now, this weeks portion is called Nasso, meaning lift up. I haven't read it yet, but I plan to!
Torah portion: Numbers 4:21-7:89
Haftarah: Judges 13:2-25
Brit Chadashah: John 11:1-54
Please read these! Even though we read the Torah over and over again we always find something that we missed or didn't see last time. So much could be revealed to us in this portion, so pick up your bible right now and read these readings or anything else that's on your heart. God's word tells us to meditate on his Torah day and night. Here's a funny joke that our friends told us last Shabbat.
These Jewish boys who were studying with the Rabbi decided that they wanted to study Greek philosophy also. So they told the Rabbi, who got a Torah scroll and was trying to find something in it. At last, he rolled the scroll back up and said, "Well, God's Torah says to meditate on it day and night. So any other time you can find to study Greek philosophy, you're welcome to."
Thanks for reading today! Please comment on what you got from this weeks and last weeks Torah portion!
