Happy Independence Day! (A little late...)
06 JulyWow! What a crazy week! Independence Day has come and gone, and what a fun time we had! I guess it's a good thing that John Adams said that Independence Day was a day of fun. And thank goodness the Chinese thought of fireworks! We went to two different firework shows; one on the third and the other on the fourth. One the third, the finale began, and we started to sing the end of the Star Spangled Banner. We literally ended the song at the exact same time that the last firework went off. It was seriously like in the movies, it was that perfect.
Then on the fourth the fireworks were being shot right over our heads so we had to lay down to look at them. They were so close to us and so bright that I could barely see. We had a great time, accompanied with millions of mosquito bites, but oh well. At least we got to see the fireworks. I put my hair in a bun and wrapped three head coverings around it; Red, White, and blue, to add to the festivity. After all, it's a patriotic time.
But I bet you didn't know that the Continental Congress voted for Independence on July 2, and John Hancock was the only one who actually signed the Declaration of Independence drafted by Thomas Jefferson on the fourth of July. The other men didn't sign it until some time in August. Crazy, huh? So really, we need to have THREE Independence days: one for the actual vote, one for John Hancock signing the Declaration, and one for when the rest of the men signed it. No, seriously!
Anyways, hope you had as much fun as I did! What did you do to celebrate our Independence from Britain? Please comment!
